EKE is Moving From Good to Great!

Greetings Parents, Families, and Community,

I am Mrs. Tyresia Brown, formerly, Miss Love, and I will be serving as the new principal for East  Kemper Elementary School.  The upcoming school year is fast approaching us and I must say that I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition that has produced so many outstanding students.

Being a native of Kemper County, an alumnus of Kemper County Public Schools, an employee of   Kemper County School District for the duration of my educational career, and recently marrying Mr. Delandrick Brown, who is also a native of Kemper County, I guess it’s safe to say, “I love Kemper County; it’s where my heart is!”  I have a loving family and support system that includes, among many others, my husband, a handsome and intelligent son, Chase, and a very energetic lab, Copper that keeps us busy.  I am elated to bring my experience and leadership to East Kemper Elementary, and I look forward to working with the students, parents, staff, community, and all that it takes to provide a world-class educational experience for each child.

During these past few weeks, I have had many interactions with parents, teachers, citizens of the community, and students. From these conversations, it is clear there is a genuine partnership between all stakeholders to provide the best possible academic experience for our students. I look forward to fostering these relationships and working with parents, teachers and staff to provide a world-class educational experience for each child.

Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to carry on the legacy of success established at East Kemper by building strong relationships with parents, students, teachers, and community partners.  The focus for the 2016-2017 school year will be centered around, but not limited to, the following areas:  using data to inform instruction, consistent implementation of best practices to increase student achievement, and increasing parental involvement.

Along with this focus, my main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment.  We will accomplish this goal by adopting, what I call, the 3 P's for Success: being POSITIVE, PROFESSIONAL, and PRODUCTIVE.  Being positive means we will be optimistic with high expectations; not letting our current accountability status determine our future status.  Being professional means that we will handle our day-to-day operations with fidelity, reliability, and integrity.  Professionalism says that we will be   confident that our character will not only get us to the place of success, but help us to maintain it.   Productive means that we will set our goals, develop a game plan to attain those goals, and stay focused not only until they are reached, but until they are surpassed.  Realizing that learning is a process, we will work diligently each and every day.  With inspiration from a famous quote of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:  During the times we can't fly, we will run. If we're not able to run, we will walk.  If we can't walk, we will crawl, but no matter what, East Kemper will keep moving forward.

You are invited to attend our Meet and Greet Open House Night on Wednesday, August 3rd, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  We will start with a general session in the school's cafeteria followed by a time to meet and talk with the faculty and staff and visit classrooms.  Throughout the year, our school website, periodic calendars, weekly newsletters, and other parent communication channels will provide you with the most current information.  However, many times you will have questions.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at 662.476.8432.

The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 4th, starting at 7:40 a.m.  Students should plan to arrive at school between 7:15 and 7:30.

My door is always open and welcoming to all. Feel free to stop in, call, or email me to discuss any concerns.  I truly feel blessed and privileged to inherit the distinguished position of instructional leader for such and an awesome school community.

Yours in education,

Mrs. Tyresia Brown, Principal
